This medium-sized owl inhabits the rain forests and old growth near the water in Central America and northern South America.  He is strictly nocturnal, feeding on insects, but he is known as an opportunistic predator.  When he is roosting and disturbed, he becomes slim and erects his ear tufts quit high.
