11x8 Oil on Light Cedar
Sometimes called the long-tailed bushtit, this little bird is common throughout Europe. He eats predominantly anthropoids, preferring the eggs and larvae of moths and butterflies - and occasional vegetable matter in autumn. His nest, always consisting of lichen, feathers (sometimes with more than 2,000), spider egg cocoons and moss, is a flexible sack with a small, round entrance at the top and is suspended from a bush or high in the forks of tree branches. Unfortunately, these nests suffer a high rate of predation with only 17% success.
