11x11 Oil on Pine - The fine-looking bird breeds throughout the Canada and the northen US states. He glides low over marsh or grassland, holding his wings in a V-shape and sporting a white patch at the base of his tail. Although not related to owls, up close he has an owlish face that helps him hear mice and voles beneath the vegetation. The male may mate with as many as 5 females (though most only have one or two) in one season. He provides most of the food for his mates and their offspring.
